National Democratic Congress’ Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo Constituency, Michael Teye Nyaunu has said that he does not hate President Mills.
“I can’t hate him, I’m a Christian and my belief does not teach me that”, Mr. Nyaunu said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Wednesday.
The MP who has persistently criticized President Mills is a key figure in the “Konadu for 2012 Campaign” as he has been appointed Chairman of the campaign team.
When host of the programme, Adakabre Frimpong Manso asked the MP why he hates the president so much as he has a history of criticizing whatever the president does, the MP in response said “don’t be naughty, how can I hate Prof. Mills? He is my President and a fellow human being; he is a good man but a bad politician.”
Mr. Nyaunu described Nana Konadu as an experienced person who is capable of finding solutions to the country’s problems if elected President: “She is a woman and a mother and therefore more than capable to deliver the country from current problems. For the past 50 years since Ghana gained independence she has been ruled by men, and now is the time for a woman to lead this nation and that woman is Nana Konadu. She has worked closely with her husband and has gained [a] wealth of experience to lead this country."
In other developments, former General Secretary for the NDC Dr. Josiah Aryeh who is set to be named the official Spokesperson for Mrs. Rawlings’ campaign team, has promised a decent contest devoid of personality attacks.
“This is not an opportunity for bloodletting, it is an opportunity for decent contest, no personality attacks but a fair campaign”, Dr. Aryeh assured.
He has debunked suggestions from some quarters to the effect that, the former First Lady’s decision to contest the sitting President for the flagbearership slot of the party, as a grand design to send the NDC back into opposition.
“No one in the leadership of the party is minded or wrong-headed to send the NDC back into opposition”, he said.
Meanwhile, the Paramount Chief of Agomeda Nene Mike Gizo who was onetime Greater Accra Regional Minister and Tourism Minister under the Jerry Rawlings’ Presidency, has told Adom FM that he is ready to play any advisory role in the Konadu for 2012 campaign team if called upon.
Speculations are that Nene Mike Gizo is being considered as Chief Advisor to the campaign team of Mrs. Rawlings.
“No one has met or discussed with me to that effect but I will accept the invitation to be an advisor if I am called to do so to promote the interest of the NDC”, he disclosed.
Asked why he did not offer himself as an advisor to the Mills’ administration, Nene Gizo said “no one in the government has thrown an invitation of that sort to me. I meet my colleagues, we talk and I advise them where necessary but I have not received any official notification from the government to play that role.”
