The Ghana Internet Services Providers Association (GISPA) has congratulated Ursula Owusu-Ekuful on her nomination as Communications Minister-designate.
The group also thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for nominating the Ablekuma West member of Parliament for the position.
GISPA said being the first woman to be nominated to the Ministry bodes well for the sector, but also the fact that she has enormous industry experience.
Having worked with Westel Telesystems as Acting Managing Director and Zain as Communications Director of Corporate and External Affairs, GISPA is certain Mrs Owusu-Ekuful will succeed in her new role if her nomination is approved by Parliament.
The Association says it is ready to work with her to achieve the Ministry’s vision of managing “the convergence of information and communications technologies to ensure free flow of information and gathering of feedback for the promotion of a viable integrated national development process within a global setting”.
The Association also hopes that having worked in the sector before, she will use her position to ensure that the general business environment for Internet Services Providers and the ICT sector as a whole will improve greatly.
GISPA says it will be ready to engage with all stakeholders, especially government, to discuss the unacceptably high costs of doing business in Ghana, and to find acceptable solutions to them.
