Police in the Tatale Sanguli district of the Northern Region have beefed up security to avert a possible ethnic conflict between the Basari and the Konkombas.
Police officers have been deployed from Yendi to join their counterparts in Tatale whilst the military has been dispatched to the area as well.
Speaking to Joy News the divisional police commander ASP Eric Akobor said the police had to beef up security in the area following the withdrawal of members of the Konkomba community in the area.
According to him, they have received separate reports demanding the closure of a school and hospital in the area because the lives of Kokomba people are in danger.
He suspects political differences may have been at the heart of the possible clashes between the two ethnic groups.
Already one of the factions are reported to have gone on demonstration wielding machetes and wearing red armbands.
The commander said even though they are trying to broker peace between the two tribes, they have put in place measures to ensure the safety of the people in the event of an outbreak of violence.
