The Ghana Football Association Gala competition, which is expected to take place this weekend, has been cancelled following recent agitation by some Ghana Premier League clubs and the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) over appearance fee.
StarTimes is said to have announced a sponsorship package of US$ 60,000 for the competition, but last Monday, 12 Premier League clubs mandated Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) to pursue the issue, claiming the original amount announced by the Ghana FA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, at the launch was US$ 100,000.
''It is unfortunate, but the decision and announcement have been made. Some of us were ready for this weekend, but as it is we now have to look for alternative plans to prepare towards the February 4 kick-off of the league,'' a club official told the Graphic Sports.
The two-day competition was scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium with all 16 clubs in the Ghana top-flight taking part to assess their readiness ahead of the start of the new campaign.
The last time the Gala was held was in 2000 which was won by BA United.
