The chairman of the Michael Essien Foundation, Mike Gizo says the foundation will ensure that Wednesday’s peace game does not end as a one-off event. Ghana and Chelsea midfielder, Michael Essien as part of his peace project for the African Union is organizing a football game dubbed Africa 11 vs. World 11 to promote peace on the Africa continent. Football legends Kalusha Bwalya, Oppong Weah, Marseille Desaille, Abedi Pele and African internationals, Samuel Eto’ Fils and Didier Drogba are on the tall list of players expected in Accra for the game on Wednesday. Speaking on Multi TV’s current affairs programme, PM Express, Mike Gizo who is also the Chief of Agomeda in the Shai area, said the hosting of the game in Accra is to send a strong message to the continent about the need for peace. “In Biblical terms, sometimes when God wants to create peace, he doesn’t start with the conflict areas, he starts with the peace in an area and moves to where there is conflict.” “This match could have gone to any other area. But let us assume that when people have still not calmed down and you want to take the match there, what will be the effect?” he questioned. According to him “we have Ivorians in Ghana, we have Liberians in Ghana, we have other nationals in Ghana. I can tell you we have even Libyans in Ghana from all the happenings in there. "So if we are talking about peace, let us give them a symbol and an initiative that when things have calmed down, they can go back and resolve that we saw this in Ghana, it is possible that we can also do it.” Mr. Gizo noted that the hosting of the game in Accra will also afford the country some mileage by way of tourism. He called on Ghanaians to support Essien’s efforts at promoting peace on the continent.
