Former Deputy Minister of State, Vicky Bright has lost a petition she filed at the NPP’s Appeals Committee after losing the primaries to be NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Okaikoi South Constituency.
Vicky Bright lost the primaries to Ahmed Asser by 12 votes in a hotly contested primaries held April 30 but suspected foul play after the results were declared.
She complained about the credibility of the voter’s register and suggested that some of her supporters were intimidated.
The Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Perry Okudzeto told Joy News, Thursday after the party released a statement on some of the appeals that have been filed that, the appeal of Miss Vicky Bright was not upheld because the committee was of the view that the elections were free and fair and therefore the results must be upheld.
He however indicated that a second petition, from a yet to be disclosed source, has to be deliberated upon before a final decision on the Okaikoi South Constituency can be made – the deliberations, he said, will be done next week.
Touching on two other petitions sent to the Appeals Committee of the party, Perry Okudzeto disclosed that after deliberations, both the Atwima Kwanwoma and the North Tongu constituencies in the Ashanti and Volta regions respectively elections will be re-run.
He explained that in the case of the Atwima Kwanwoma, there was a tie in the results of the sitting MP and another candidate who both had 205 votes.
In the North Tongu constituency, some electoral coordinators and some other delegates who had the mandate to vote were prevented from voting therefore prompting the committee to recommend that the election be re-run in that constituency.
