A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has challenged the Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) Yaw Akrasi Sarpong to name the political parties he claimed used proceeds from narcotics trade to finance activities of their parties.
“I am challenging him to come with the names of the political parties; he should do that now or give the names to the police,” he stated.
The Executive Secretary of NACOB in an interview with Joy FM revealed that his outfit has ample evidence that some politicians intend to use proceeds from drug trade to fund their campaign ahead of the 2012 general elections.
The NACOB Boss issued a stern warning to all political parties who plan to fund their campaign with drug money that they would be arrested and prosecuted.
Commenting on the threats from the NACOB Boss to the various political parties on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said, the NACOB Boss must be compelled to name the parties involved in the drug trade to back his claims.
“He has blown something out that should not be swept under the carpet at all. This is a very serious issue and it concerns not just politicians in this country but every Ghanaian,” he stressed.
According to him, the narcotic trade which has had a negative impact on the image of the country should be fought devoid of politics to provide a lasting solution to the problem.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said even though all political parties must be committed to the fight against narcotics, they must also compell Mr. Akrasi Sarpong to provide concrete evidence to back his claims.
The NPP guru observed that, Mr. Akrasi Sarpong in his capacity as NACOB Boss should not have made such a sensitive comment without any evidence.
“For someone who is the head of the narcotics control board to come out with such a statement without backing it is a serious matter for every Ghanaian in this country. If he cannot come out to substantiate what he has said then he is not fit to sit at that place. He should be chopped off by the President”.
