The Chairman of the UK/Ireland branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Horace Nii Ankrah has opined that the former first lady and an aspirant of the ruling party’s flagbearership race, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has no experience on governance issues hence would not be a good competitor to face the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in election 2012.
According to him, considering the character and performance of President J.E.A. Mills in just two years in office, there is no way party delegates would vote for the former first lady.
Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings who is the only challenger to President Mills for the flag bearer contest has on several occasions accused the President of presiding over a corrupt government and providing weak leadership since he was voted to lead the country.
The former first lady believes the Mills-led administration has no vision for the party and no desire to perpetuate the ideals of probity, accountability, freedom and justice on which the party was formed.
Nana Konadu hopes to lead the party to restore hope and dignity to majority of NDC members who are in a state of hopelessness and despondency which the current government has brought into the ranks of the party and to rejuvenate the ideals of her husband Jerry John Rawlings founder of the NDC.
But Horace Nii Ankrah on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, noted that the former first lady’s promise of restoring hope and dignity to the NDC is not exclusive because “as a leader, people expect you to restore hope to them”.
He said a win for Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings at the Sunyani congress would mean handing over power to the opposition NPP on a silver platter because the NDC would find it very difficult to market her ahead of the 2012 general elections.
Mr. Ankrah stressed that the UK/Ireland branch of the NDC would vote massively for President Mills to ensure a one touch victory for him in the July 8 Congress in Sunyani.
Horace Nii Ankrah who predicted a landslide victory for President Mills urged party delegates to vote massively to prevent a run-off.
He was optimistic that the Rawlingses would not breakaway from the party if Mrs. Rawlings loses to President Mills at the congress.
The UK/Ireland NDC Chairman reiterated that the good works of the Prof. Mills led-government are clear enough to retain the ruling party in power come 2012.
Meanwhile, the delegate congress the NDC will be held from Friday July 8 to Sunday July 10 in Sunyani.
