Some strange flies are said to have invaded the town of Edina Essaman in the Central Region. The bites of the flies have also resulted in residents contracting strange diseases. The flies are believed to have emanated from the dumping of human excreta and other waste from within the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem District in the town without any treatment. The chiefs have therefore given the Environmental Protection Agency a month’s ultimatum to clear the human waste.Joy News’ correspondent Richard Kwadwo Nyarko says people are upset that the assembly failed to build a recycling plant in the town as promised. He indicated that the residents have been forced to cope with the pungent odour as the waste multiplies. He said the dumping site is also very close to a school in the area and the school children face the risk of contracting diseases as they purchase food from the vicinity. The chief of the town Nana Kwesi Tandoh IV told Joy News the area has been overwhelmed with the waste in the town.He expressed disappointment in the District Assembly for failing to resolve the problem which threatens their livelihood and called on the government to come to their aid.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
