Health officials at the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District are collaborating with sanitation agencies in the Central Region to check the spread of cholera in Moree.
The number of cholera cases reported at the Moree Health Centre has shot up to 71 in five days whilst two deaths have so far been recorded.
The District Director of Health Services, Gifty Ankrah says they have deployed community health nurses to the fishing community to help contain the disease.
Central Regional Correspondent, Richard Kojo Nyarko reported some of the measures to be taken will include disinfecting water bodies and places of convenience as well as ridding the Moree township of filth.
The outbreak of the disease has been blamed on contamination of water sources as a result of heavy rains and floods.
The District Director of Health, Gifty Akrah said an aggressive education campaign was underway to education the people on how to avoid contracting the disease.
“We have intensified our surveillance. We have also put in a lot of control measures in the community,” she said.
