Aide to the flag-bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Abu Jinapor, has thrown a challenge to Members of Parliament to table questions to compell the Interior Minister to tell the nation how much of the tax payers money went into providing security for the NDC’s extraordinary congress over the weekend.
Describing as profligate the amount of money spent on the NDC congress, Mr. Jinapor said it was important that the Interior Minister provided answers to these questions considering the allegations of vote buying which characterised the congress.
Speaking on Multi TV’s political talk show, Minority Caucus, Mr. Jinapor referred to comments made by the spokesperson to the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams who has also raised red flags over the conduct of the weekend’s congress.
“Kofi Adams who is the spokesperson for Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and former President Rawlings says that the congress in Sunyani was choreographed and that huge sums of monies were paid out to delegates and delegates were asked to go and take photographs of their voting patterns and come back to take huge sums of money.”
He added that “I think the Ghanaian tax payer, the trotro driver, the chop bar owners, the taxi driver, all of us who pay taxes have to be interested that these alleged monies that were paid to delegates in Sunyani were they tax payers money or they are the monies that have been suddenly found by President Mills and his cronies. We have to know.”
He said “I am for instance encouraging members of parliament to table questions which will compel the Minister of Interior to come and answer questions as to how much it cost the tax payer to give security to the NDC congress.”
According to him, other Ministers in the NDC government should also be made to account for how the tax payer’s money is spent in their various ministries, adding that it was urgent the Trade Minister was also brought before the House to answer questions about how MASLOC funds have been disbursed over the last three months.
He described the outcome of the Sunyani congress as an indictment on the Mills-Mahama administration which he said was grossly incompetent. “What happened in Sunyani is self preservation, it is tickling yourself and laughing. It is nothing new”.
