Mr Alfred Agamah, Sunyani Municipal Manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme, has explained that the registration of membership of the scheme is valid for a year.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, that failure to renew membership meant a client would have to pay for the period he or she failed to do so.
“The insurance is valid for a year and if a person does not renew it in a year he or she is made to pay for the lost year when renewing the following year”, he said.
Mr Agamah said the scheme would cancel all top-ups with effect from October 1, meaning if a card expired and was not renewed immediately, applicants in that bracket would have to wait for three months before their cards would be renewed.
Mr Agamah said the authorities of the scheme would be educating the public about this from August till the end of September and urged the public to take the renewal of their cards seriously.
He appealed to the general public to seek any clarification on issues concerning the scheme from the scheme office.
