The Member of Parliament for the Manhyia constituency and NPP’s Director for elections 2012, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh says he is not focused on the 2016 elections as is being alleged in media circles. The Informer newspaper on Monday July 25 reported that the Manhyia MP is bragging about former President Kufuor endorsing him for the 2016 elections. But Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh denied ever making such statements about any such endorsements by former President Kufuor. Speaking on Asempa FM’s current affairs programme Ekosii-Sen on Monday from London where he is currently enjoying his holidays, Dr. Opoku Prempeh also affectionately called “NAPO” declared, he will serve the party and not individuals, thereby rubbishing the Informer newspaper's story. He expressed shock at the turn of events because he has never thought of a presidential ambition for the 2016 General Election. According to the Manhyia MP, he is ever-focused on making the NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo win the upcoming 2012 elections. He said he will never be ungrateful to Nana Addo after the NPP flagbearer honoured him and chose him as the party’s Director of Elections for the 2012 elections. He added that even President Kufuor whom his name is being attached to as endorsing him for 2016, did not give him a position during his eight years rule as President of Ghana and wondered how he (NAPO) can turn his back on Nana Addo who has given him an appointment. He said he has nothing to tell the editor of the Informer newspaper, Andy Kankam than leave him in the hands of God. However speaking on the same platform, the Editor of the newspaper Andy Kankam who insisted the story is true said if the Manhyia MP dares him, he was going to mention names. He however failed to disclose his source of the story when he was pushed further to reveal more details. Story by Twum Barimah/Asempa News/Ghana
