A member of the National Democratic Congress in the East Ayawaso Constituency in the Greater Accra Region has issued an unqualified apology to the Constituency Executives as well as the rank and file of the party for contesting the 2008 Parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.Mohammed Amin Lamptey, a commentator and sports journalist said his decision to contest was “purely as a result of love for the party”.In a statement, Lamptey admitted his decision, though well intentioned, was not best.He is therefore asking the rank and file of the party to forgive him in the spirit of unity preached by the President John Mills during his re-election as the party’s flagbearer in the just ended Sunyani Congress.Beneath is a full copy of the apology letter DATE: JULY 21, 2011
APOLOGY TO THE EAST AYAWASO CONSTITUENCY
EXECUTIVE AND THE ENTIRE MEMBERSHIP OF THE PARTY
NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (NDC)I sincerely wish on this day the 21st of July 2011 to express my profound gratitude to the executive and members of the EAST AYAWASO CONSTITUENCY for their commitment and dedication towards the forward match of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) especially for maintaining the unbeatable record of NDC in the last presidential and parliamentary elections. With the 2008 elections over and the congress to elect the flag bearer of the party for the much anticipated 2012 general elections settled couple of weeks ago, I think it’s proper in the spirit of unity to humbly and officially render an unqualified apology to my constituency officers and members for contesting the 2008 Parliamentary elections as an independent candidate which the party’s constitution frowns upon.I wish to appeal to the rank and file of the party to kindly forgive me for the uncalculated decision and promise not to repeat similar mistake again.Even though there must be a justification to every decision, in my case, I think it was purely as a result of love for the party and how to amplify the voice of the youth for attention. Probably my choice of path at that time was not the best. To err is human and to forgive is God. I hope the great leadership of the EAST AYAWASO CONSTITUENCY will consider my request for apology as one of the positive steps in trying to bring back some of us who one way or the other fell out due to circumstances beyond our control or through an unbearable pressure. With the above background, I hereby wish to pledge for a total commitment and dedication to the party as I used to be in all fronts especially in the areas of research, media relations, organization, event management, campaign strategy, youth programmes and what have you. Hopefully this will be my first and of course the last time to contravene the constitution of our great party. In conclusion, I wish to pay a great homage to my political role models who introduced me to the NDC FAMILY since the PNDC era even though as a young man I was hardworking and dedicated until the introduction of NDC where I devotionally served to my ability to the post of Assembly member. May the Lord richly bless all of us; grant us peace, love and harmony. May the Lord protect us against the evil that men do. LONG LIVE EAST AYAWASO CONSTITUENCY, LONG LIVE NDC AND LONG LIVE GHANAMohammed Amin Lamptey
