Former Kotoko coach, Michael Osei, believes he left the club with a formidable team prior to his departure.

The former winger made these comments in the wake of the Porcupine Warriors’ abysmal form which has seen them go winless in five straight league games.

Their fortunes were further deepened with a humbling 3-1 defeat at the hands of rivals Hearts of Oak with a poor performance to go with the scoreline.

All seems doom and gloom for the Kumasi side after this defeat with difficult fixtures against Olympics and Tema Youth yet to come in the league. Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic was blamed for the team’s poor form but their problems have still persisted despite his departure.

The fans now believe the players may not be the right crop for a team of Kotoko’s caliber but Osei believes he left a great team behind.

“The team was very strong when I was leaving even though we did not have a good start last season but we came back strongly in the second half of the season and we tried fighting for the league title but we finished 5th,” he told Asempa Sports.

“We did not have a good season last year so the supporters were expecting some good performances from the players this year but the pressure keeps on increasing. I still believe they still have a good team and I believe they need to put smiles on the faces of the supporters.

“I was able to purchase most of the players the club needed to build the team when I was in charge but some came after my exit. With the team that I had, I tried to get a backup for them in order to strengthen the striking position especially.

“With what I did before I left the club, I was expecting that things will go on well for the club but this is football and you should expect these kinds of things to happen. It can happen you will start well or not but it entails a lot.

Kotoko face Great Olympics this weekend at the Accra Sports Stadium.
