Twelve ring leaders who organized a demonstration against the Volta Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Amenorwode have been picked up by police.
The twelve are part of a group calling itself the Youth for Action Group of Volta Region calling on the Regional Minister and the Metropolitan District Chief Executive to resign their position, accusing them of not bringing any significant development projects to the region.
They threatened to hit the streets today if the minister did not resign – a threat they carried out Wednesday morning.
Joy News’ Volta Regional Correspondent, Agbeko Ben Coffie reported that the demonstration started peacefully until the police intervened and arrested the twelve.
The Police claim the group did not get the approval from the police before embarking on the demonstration.
The credibility of the group has been questioned with the Regional Minister insisting the NDC has no such group.
Meanwhile, one of the leaders arrested, Alhaji Bello, Tuesday told Myjoyonline.com, the police, on the instructions of the Regional Minister, had been pursuing him and others in an effort to scuttle today’s demonstration.
It is not clear yet what charges, if any, will be leveled at the demonstrators.
