NDC General Secretary, Johnson Aisedu Nketiah says Vice President John Mahama complements President John Evans Atta Mills very well hence his retention as running mate for Election 2012.
The president announced his choice for running mate at a national executive committee meeting Thursday.
The president also debunked, at the meeting, speculations that he might not contest the presidency on health grounds.
President Mills was retained last month as flagbearer to lead the party for next year’s polls.
Speaking to Joy News, NDC general secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia said the decision is the best one for the NDC.
“And so the president attended the meeting and submitted the name of H.E. John Dramani Mahama for consideration and it was overwhelmingly endorsed,” he said.
“We’ve tried him and proved that he complements the president very well and that was clear in the results of the 2008 election. The decision of delegates to endorse Prof Mills overwhelmingly is to send signals to us that they wanted continuity with the same captains in control,” he said.
Meanwhile flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo has yet to choose a running mate.
