The National Propaganda Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Quashigah, has alleged that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) plans to unleash beautiful ladies to entrap top government functionaries. Some of the girls, called the spike girls, have been tasked to plant recorders in the vehicles of their victims to record conversations between them, he alleged. Another group of girls – the Fair Mermaids – would make video recordings of their sexual escapades with ministers and other government appointees. Mr Quashigah who made the claims in an interview with myjoyonline.com Friday, explained that the recordings are meant to be used by the NPP as campaign tools in the upcoming elections in 2012 to impugn the integrity of members of government. He said the NDC as a party has warned all its top guns, especially those in government, to be extremely careful in order not to be caught in the snares of the 'bird catchers'. The NPP, according to him, had become so desperate after being in opposition for just over two years that they are ready to employ all sinister tactics to ensure the fall of the NDC government. He said the party also had information several months ago that a time would come when the opposition would stage-manage attacks on themselves and blame it on the NDC. He was convinced that the recent bribery allegations of journalists by a deputy minister is all part of the grand scheme of the NPP to tarnish the image of the government, hoping that would make the public disenchanted against the government. The entire week, the nation has been engrossed by accusations and counter accusations over the allegations of bribery of journalists between officials and leaders of the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress. Other individuals and institutions have called for thorough investigations of the allegations before the 2012 general elections if the integrity of journalists in the country is not to be questioned.
