The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will open nominations for parliamentary aspirants in constituencies where the party has no sitting MPs from the 16 of August. The party says it intends to focus on these constituencies to ensure that candidates elected are strong enough to snatch the seats from opposition parties.Speaking to Joy News on Friday, NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah said the nomination period lasts for a month and female aspirants will pay half of the nomination fee of 2,000 cedis. He said all interested aspirants must have been active in the party for the last two years and be card-bearing members who have not defaulted in paying their dues.Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah said the party will not prevent District Chief Executives from putting themselves up for the primaries as the party regulations do not prevent DCEs from doing so.He said the party might open nominations for sitting MPs whiles what he calls the ‘orphan constituency’ primaries are ongoing.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
