Five people have now been confirmed dead in the Ashaiman gas explosion incident.
Dr Opoku-Ware Ampomah, Head of the Burns Unit at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital confirmed the death in an interview with Joy News on Monday.
He said victims of the fire burn were exposed to severe infections after 70 per cent of their bodies were burnt.
One of them died few hours after they were rushed to the hospital whilst the other four died several days later.
The remaining victim, John Oheneku is said to be responding to treatment.
The deaths followed a recent fire incident in which 18 people were burnt after a gas cylinder exploded in Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra. They were rushed to the Tema General Hospital after which six of them, whose conditions were said to be precarious, were transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
Dr Ampomah explained a small sized body burn requires a body cover with intensive treatment, but if the burn covers greater part of the body, then, it becomes a challenge to health personnel and its victims.
Dr. Ampomah said the remaining victim might need skin replacement and intensive health care to avoid any future infections and complications.
