Leaders of the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) are impressed with what they say is ex-president John Kufuor’s commitment to Polytechnic education in the country while in power.
The executives who paid a courtesy call on the ex-president, did not hide their appreciation for what they claim were massive infrastructural developments undertaken during Mr. Kufuor’s tenure.
“The students and the entire polytechnic fraternity thank your Excellency, the former president for the infrastructural development that the polytechnics saw under your leadership as president of this nation.
“We have done a little retrospect of whatever has happened within your year and we think that it is worth commending and so this morning we are here on behalf of the over 50,000 polytechnic students across the length and breadth of this country to thank you for all the things we have seen,” Alhassan Baba, Public Relations Officer of GNUPS told the ex-president.
Mr. Kufuor was gratified by the gesture of the students.
“My reaction to your first assignment - coming to express appreciation for what my government and I did in terms of the physical development of the polytechnics of Ghana, I say we want to thank you for your appreciation.
“From the Good Book, (and when I say the Good Book I hope you know what I mean) the Bible, we learnt that if God himself appreciates people expressing appreciation then how much more an ordinary human like me and my government. So we are very thankful to our young and upcoming citizens.
Mr Kufuor also told Joy News’ Francisca Kakra Forson on the sidelines of the GNUPS visit, to consider recent leaked diplomatic cables by wikileaks as mere hearsays which should not be taken seriously.
He will not also criticize the government for endorsing the transitional government in Libya.
