A concerned group of the ruling National Democratic Congress is calling on the president to, with immediate effect, dismiss the National Security Coordinator Colonel (retd) Larry Gbevlo Lartey.According to the group, not only is the security chief creating disaffection within the party, but he is also, working against the interest of the party. The group Tuesday demonstrated at the party’s headquarters in Accra, fearing if he was not given the sack, his actions could seriously impact negatively on the fortunes of the party come 2012.“We are telling the president that Gbevlo Lartey must go, he should sack Gbevlo Lartey because we are not seeing his use. Gbevlo Lartey is a threat to us in 2012,” Spokesperson for the group Hajia Sherifatu Sulley told Joy News’ Anny Osabutey. She listed a litany of accusations against the former head of the defunct 64 Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces, and wanted him investigated.Hajia Sherifatu Sulley also accused Col. Gbevlo Lartey of “giving information to the NPP”.She further claimed: “There is a chief who insulted President Mills in the Volta Region, [but] 19 chiefs in the Volta Region came out and [discredited the allegations raised by] the chief, [but] Gbevlo Lartey went to compensate the chief by buying a car for him.”She also accused him of abusing his position and using state machinery to impose his son, Nestor Gbevlo Lartey, on the people of Hohoe North constituency of the NDC as the parliamentary candidate. When challenged for evidence, Hajia Sherifatu Sulley could not provide any prove but maintained, “we have our own source”. She rather challenged Mr Gbevlo Lartey to come public on the issue if he “thinks we are lying”.She said when people like Mr Gbevelo Lartey are kicked out of government, it would pave way for President Atta Mills to “deliver his better Ghana agenda”.
