Plots by Assembly members in the Ketu South District in the Volta Region to impeach the District Chief Executive has hit a snag, at least for now. Some Assembly members accuse Bernard Frank Amable of abusing his office as the DCE and neglecting the constituency executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress party. They had, prior to a meeting Thursday, signed a letter of impeachment and were formally to make their decision public. But Joy News correspondent Edem Nyasogbor reported of a dramatic twist Thursday, with the introduction of a second letter at the much anticipated meeting. The letter had 20 signatories - some of who had signed the first one - and sought to invalidate the contents of the first letter.Prior to the meeting the constituency chairman, Marshall Ackumey had in a press conference backed the impeachment of the DCE.He had said the relationship between the DCE and the constituency executives had gone sour and all attempts to repair it had proven futile. He said it would therefore be in the party’s interest to remove the DCE.At the Assembly meeting where the impeachment process was to take place, five of the assembly members who had signed the initial impeachment letter said they were not privy to the contents of the letter before signing it. Others however, backed its contents, according to Nyasogbor. The situation became even more dramatic when the second letter, reposing confidence in the DCE and invalidating the first letter, was read by the Presiding member.According to the reporter, many of the signatories to the first letter challenged the authenticity of the second letter, insisting the first letter ought to stand. The Assembly members are however yet to take a firm decision whether or not to impeach the DCE.
