A crucial Inter Party Advisory Committee meeting Friday got all four political parties with representation in Parliament agreeing to a roadmap to resolve differences with the biometric voters’ register. The parties have decided to form two committees to address concerns raised with the exercise. They have also agreed to leave the procurement of equipment for the exercise exclusively to the Electoral Commission. Some of the parties had taken issues with the manner the EC is conducting the exercise, however an Inter Party Advisory Committee meeting in Accra Friday appears to have resolved the matter.General Secretary of the Convention People's Party, Ivor Greenstreet, told Joy News’ Cyrus deGraft-Johnson that the Legal and Technical Committees have terms of reference to work with and would start work as soon as each party nominates a representative. He explained that the biometric register with an inherent verification process will greatly resolve the nagging issue of a bloated register.NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia hopes all the parties would attach some seriousness to the work of the committees when actual work kicks off.He said it is in the interest of all the parties to have maximum protection for the sensitive data used for the election.“It has also been made clear that verification is not a registration issue at all. It is a voting issue,” he stated, adding there will be verification only when it is time for voting. He said the committees are expected to resolve the issues that have cropped up.
