Information reaching Asempa News indicates that remand prisoners being transported to Accra on Wednesday morning broke the gate of the vehicle and escaped into a nearby bush at Pokuase near Amasaman.Police guards are reportedly chasing the prisoners but no arrests have been made as yet.An eyewitness, named only as Joshua, told Joy FM's Super Morning Show the prison van was carrying about 20 prisoners when the six of them escaped. He said the vehicle had slowed down at a toll booth near the Nsawam Prison and the prisoners took advantage of the situation and escaped into tall bushes that provides them with a sanctuary of a sort.According to the eyewitness, the three police officers escorting the prisoners were overwhelmed and it looks unlikely that they will be able to re-arrest the escapees.
