Former President Jerry John Rawlings recently rejected government's offer of a temporary mansion for him at the plush Trasacco Valley Estates, his aide Kofi Adams has exclusively told Citi News.
The former president has been living in what his aide called a ‘safe house’ since fire razed down his North Ridge residence, an old colonial relic, some 20 months ago.
Contrary to several claims by state officials that the government had taken steps to reconstruct the destroyed residence, which once housed the former first family, Citi News’ visit to the site on Thursday showed that not a single block had been laid on the ground.
Spokesperson to the ex-President Kofi Adams told Citi News that the former president rejected the temporary home offered him by the government because, in his view, it was incompatible with the NDC founder’s moderate lifestyle.
He added that the mansion was also rejected because it was not a permanent, but a temporary accommodation and since Rawlings was not ready to move into a makeshift accommodation, the offer was humbly declined. “The detail was to allocate another temporary accommodation for him and he said no, but the temporary arrangements he had put in place for himself was okay.
“What he wants is actual confirmation of dates as to when the actual residence would commence and end rather than the shifting here and the shifting there. ”
