The President of Ghana, Professor John Evans Atta Mills Wednesday assured Ghanaians that the next one and half years will see a great improvement in social infrastructure to better their lives.
The President who was on an inspection tour of development projects in the Greater Accra Region, said there is a lot that the Government has been able to do, and urged Ghanaians to continue to put their weight behind the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), to realise bigger improvement in their living conditions.
“The NDC is here to build, not to destroy,” President Mills said, as he addressed the chiefs and people of the Nungua, after inaugurating a polyclinic project in the area.
President Mills also inaugurated a six-unit one story- building for the Dares Salam Junior High School.
He thanked the chiefs and people, and told them that the improvement in infrastructure is an example of what Government wants to do around the country.
President Mills said Government is concerned about the people and will stick to its determination to care for the people.
The President earlier inspected the Adjei Kojo-Santeo Road Project and cautioned the contractor to speed up work.
At the Ashaiman Senior High School, President Mills inaugurated a six-unit, classroom and Assembly Hall, and stressed the need for quality education in the human resources development.
He said Government will continue to provide the necessary facilities to improve education.
President Mills also inspected a two-storey office complex for the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly and the progress of work on the World Bank sponsored Kpone Engineered Landfill Site, being undertaken by Rolider, from Israel. The 15-month project is expected to be completed next May.
He urged the staff to maintain their determination to give off their best in the interest of the nation.
President Mill also inaugurated System Control Centre of the Ghana Grid Company Limited.
Mr Frank Otchere, Acting Manager of the Centre, in an interview with journalists said the Centre is to co-ordinate all activities of the power distribution in Ghana. It will also help to reduce power outages.
President Mills earlier in the day broke grounds for the commencement of work on the Ada Sea Defence Project and inspected the progress of work on a dormitory and maintenance shed at Ada Senior High School being undertaken by Brocke Ventures Limited.
The expected date of completion is December 2011, but the contractor indicated that work is ahead of schedule and will be completed by the end of October.
President Mills commended the contractor for working ahead of schedule.
