Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr, has rubbished the performance ratings of politicians by the Africa Watch magazine, saying the publication does not merit the attention being given it.
For one to undertake a proper, in-depth assessment of politicians, especially parliamentarians, an analysis of the person’s work outside parliament was very crucial, he said.
Malik Baako was commenting on the ratings by the AfricaWatch magazine which had generated excitement among some politicians who scored higher and anger among others.
However, according to the editor who was speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Wednesday, there was no reason for anyone to rejoice or riot over the ratings since it was not a true representation of the performance of politicians.
He doubted the capacity and credibility of the US-based magazine to carry out a project which he termed as a 'massive project' and challenged the Ghanaian media to conduct a proper performance assessment of the nation’s politicians.
"[It's] a massive project and it's not a project that I'm about to agree [that] one newspaper or one magazine located somewhere in the US can do and then we are all jumping at it and making an industry out of it."
He also challenged the media to subject the editor of the magazine to strict proof, and added that until the managers of the magazine explained to Ghanaians how they generated and evaluated their information to arrive at such results, the publication should be consigned to the dustbin.
"They are entitled to their grading, they are entitled to their opinion, it is their right… and those who want to believe and rely on it too it is their right…I'm completely dismissive of it… and I'm surprised that we have several politicians who are happy, some are angry and are running riot with it. I'm actually surprised."
