The General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Sodzi Sodzi Tetteh says the deputy Ministry of Health has breached an agreement reached at the National Labour Commission (NLC) between the government and GM
According to him, it was agreed that until the impasse is settled, none of the parties should comment on the issues discussed at the NLC to the media, but the minister has failed to go by it.
Deputy Minister of Health, Rojo Mettle-Nunoo, Friday dared the striking doctors to take the government’s offer or resign.
Speaking on Asempa fm’s Ekosii-Sen Friday, Dr. Sodzi Sodzi Tetteh noted that the impasse between the fair wages and salaries commission (FWSC) and the GMA is getting rough.
“It is easy to blame doctors but you don’t know what is going on. Look at how the Daily Graphic (Thursday)publish a huge sums of money that pre-supposes that doctors are earning too much but it is untrue,” he said.
He said the Daily Graphic story on Thursday is part of a grand plot to incite doctors against the public which is an act of injustice.
He stressed that there can be an end to the strike through communication and not the application of force.
He said taking the issue to the National Labour Commission for compulsory arbitration will take more that 14 days, and questioned, "how will that end so soon?"
He denied claims that doctors have taken an entrenched position on the SSSS saying that “we are also human and deserves better”.
He asserted that everyone is doing the best to get the matter resolved but it looks as if there is some level of anger in the negotiation.
He describes the deputy Health Minister’s directive to doctors to either comply with government’s offer or resign as pre-judgment of the matter before the labour commission.
He asked the public not to doubt the commitment of doctors to saving human lives in the country, adding that the GMA will do its possible best to help resolve the impasse.
