The chiefs and people of Mo and Bamboi Traditional areas are up-in-arms against Vice President John Dramani Mahama.A petition signed by Nana Kwaku Dapaa II, Paramount Chief and President of North Mo Traditional Council and Nana Tebalakala, Gyaasehene of South Mo Traditional area, is calling on the vice president to keep his promise of creating a new district for the area in order to quicken development in the area.According to the petitioners, during his time as Member of Parliament of the area, Mr Mahama had reneged on all the promises he made till he became the vice president of Ghana. The chiefs noted that during the run-up to the 2008 general elections, John Mahama promised the people at a rally that when the NDC came to power, Bamboi would become a district but sadly, when the names of the newly-created district were announced recently, Bamboi was conspicuously missing. The petitioners went further to say that assembly members from Bamboi had to travel all the way to Bole, which was 100 miles away, to attend meetings of the district assembly. As a result of the distance, the petitioners said, the assembly members found it difficult to reach Bole to contribute to any assembly meeting. In an interview with Chiranquah Emmanuel, the secretary of Bamboi Youth Association, he said it was common knowledge that the creation of a district came along with development projects and so denying Bamboi its own district meant development of the area would be stalled. He said the Vice President’s actions clearly showed that he did not want Bamboi to develop like Bole, where he came from.Mr. Chiranquah noted that if the vice president thought the people of Bamboi would vote for the NDC whether they got a district or not, then he should think again because the people had wised up.According to Mr. Chiranquah, with barely a year to the end of the four-year term of the NDC, the people of Bamboi would not allow the vice president to renege on his promises. He said much as they would not like to give any ultimatum, if the people waited for some time and a new district was not created for Bamboi, they would advice themselves, adding, “Only a fool would allow his testicle to be trampled upon twice”.
