The National Propaganda Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC )Richard Quarshiga says the flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is only popular for his infamous ‘All-die-be-die’ comment and his addiction to narcotic drugs. He explained that Nana Akufo-Addo could only be a popular politician for inciting young people to take arms against the legitimate authorities of the land in his desperation to be president to outshine his father who was a ceremonial president in the Busia regime.Richard Quarshigah’s comment comes on the back of claims by former President Jerry Rawlings that the failure of the Mills-led administration to fulfill its campaign promises to Ghanaians has made Nana Akufo-Addo more popular.Mr. Rawlings bemoaned President J.E.A. Mills’ lackadaisical attitude towards prosecuting corrupt government officials in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, and his inability to improve the living conditions of the people who voted for them has given the NPP an advantage. The NDC founder warned that the situation, which has made the ruling party weaker than the opposition, could affect the electoral fortunes of the party in the 2012 general elections. But Richard Quarshigah on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, rubbished the suggestion of the founder of the NDC that the so called popularity of Nana Akufo-Addo is an indication of victory for the NPP in 2012.He said the reputation of Nana Akufo-Addo has been badly damaged by the recent revelation by the US whistle blower website wikileaks which implicated him (Nana Addo) of marijuana use.The NDC Propaganda Secretary said the NPP risk losing the 2012 elections woefully if Nana Akufo-Addo leads the party in next year’s elections. He observed that Ghanaians would prefer a lesser devil; President Mills irrespective of the challenges in government than a bigger devil Nana Akufo-Addo who lacks the moral integrity to be President.Richard Quarshigah believes the massive infrastructural developments across the country and the current state of the economy would win the 2012 elections for President Mills on a silver platter. However, the NDC Propaganda Secretary stated that the party would take the advice of their founder, Jerry Rawlings in good faith, correct their mistakes and move on with the Better Ghana Agenda.Richard Quarshigah said the Mills-led administration acknowledges freedom of speech as the hallmark of any democracy, and would therefore not prevent anyone from exercising that right.“Freedom of speech is thriving far better under this regime than any other regime” he opined.
