The Africa Head of the Royal Commonwealth Society, the oldest organization in the Commonwealth family, has endorsed the Kenyatta/Ruto bid for a second term in the Kenyan elections.
Speaking at an event in Accra, Mr. Apea stated that his personal, rather than professional preference is for President Kenyatta and Vice-President Ruto to have their mandate renewed in order for them to complete what they have started, at least for the next four years.
Speaking to Journalists in Accra, Mr. Apea stated that “from the statistics that I have seen, and let me reiterate, from a personal point of view, I think that the post neo-classical endogenous growth approach that the President and his Vice have taken over the past 4 years, will reap dividends over the next four years”.
He further added “ As a passionate pan-Africanist, and a strong proponent of the Commonwealth, I am excited at what I believe will be a revival in Eastern Africa over the next few years; from employment, sanitation and electrification, to education, aged care, Railway and Ports. I personally believe that the current government is on the right track”.
Kenyatta faces his rival Raila Odinga in what is expected to be a close election on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
The two candidates met in a similar election in 2013, but Kenyatta won the election, a victory which was affirmed by the country's Supreme Court after the results were disputed.
