The deputy Minister of Tourism, James Agyenim Boateng, has described comments by former President Jerry John Rawlings that the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party was gaining popularity more than the sitting President as unfortunate.
Mr. Agenim Boateng said former President Rawlings is not the barometer for measuring popularity.
He said the founder of NDC, should be the last person to fall in love with the NPP.
According to Mr Agyenim Boateng, the NPP under former president Kufuor treated Mr. Rawlings badly, including withdrawing courtesies accorded him by the state as well as putting his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, on trial.
James Agyenim Boateng said on Adom TV’s Badwam programme on Wednesday that, the fact that Mr. Rawlings ruled Ghana for 19 years does not make him a measuring tool on popularity for winning elections.
He challenged the Mr. Rawlings to produce the methodology used in determining his conclusion that Nana Akufo-Addo was more popular than President Mills, including showing percentages and credence to such topics.
