Detractors of government are heartbroken with the decision by doctors to call off their strike action. A member of the communication team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has posited. Fred Agbenyo said the demeanour and utterances of such people and groups over the doctors' strike suggested they wished the action had persisted just to score cheap political points ahead of the 2012 general elections. The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) in a release Wednesday suspended their almost three weeks strike on humanitarian grounds while the Labour Commission resolves the impasse with Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC). The doctors have been at loggerheads with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission over their migration onto the single spine salary structure, which culminated into the strike - but have urged all doctors to resume work as leaders continue negotiations. The Assistant General Secretary of the GMA, Dr. Frank Siribuor who confirmed the decision in an interview with Nana Bobie Ansah, host of Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme hoped their grievances would be adequately met. However, Fred Agbenyo, a panelist on the programme could not fathom why some people would wish the doctors continue with the strike - an action which is said to have claimed many lives. He explained that the detractors, whenever they have an opportunity to comment on the doctors strike in the media, appeared to be teasing the Mills-led administration’s inability to resolve the issue. Fred Agbenyo accused such people of taking advantage of the strike to spread negative propaganda about the government just to woo the aggrieved doctors. He warned the cynics in the country to be guided in their actions since they would one day ascend the high office and face a similar situation. The NDC youth activist observed that those castigating President Mills of lacking the requisite leadership skills to handle the strike should now bow their heads in shame since he (Mills) has proven beyond reasonable doubt of being a true leader. Fred Agbenyo commended President Mills for resolving the issue quietly and not turning it into a public funfair.
