A member of the communications team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Boamah Otukonor has taken a swipe at the flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) accusing him of propagating violence to satisfy his insatiable demand for oil money. Nana Akufo-Addo, a key note speaker at the Africa Conference in Germany is reported to have said there is much tension in the country prior to the 2012 general elections because of Ghana’s oil. The NPP flag bearer underscored the need for the Electoral Commission (EC) to put the necessary mechanism in place to avoid uncertainties in next year’s elections. Nana Akufo- Addo stressed that in spite of challenges, the NPP would continue to engage and persuade the EC to implement the electronic verification mechanism in the biometric registration process. But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Peter Otukonor described Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s comment as very frightening, claiming it exposes the NPP’s preconceived motive to derail a peaceful election in 2012. He noted that given the importance of Ghana’s oil find to the international community, Nana Akufo-Addo decided to use that opportunity to woo the diplomats present at the conference to support him through fair or foul means to enable him win the elections in return for the country’s oil. He said the action by the NPP flag bearer does not come to him as a surprise since the Dankwa-Busia tradition have a track record of selling the country to imperialist for their parochial interest. Peter Otukonor observed that Nana Akufo-Addo under the guise of delivering a lecture on biometric registration has exposed the rationale behind his infamous “All die be die” mantra to prepare the grounds for violence in 2012. He asserted that Nana Akufo-Addo’s motive is to prepare the minds of people for the violence they want to perpetuate in 2012 in his quest to become a president like his late father who was a ceremonial president in the Busia regime. The maverick NDC youth active who sounded very alarmed called on well-meaning Ghanaians to subject the unfortunate comment by Nana Akufo-Addo to strict scrutiny and reject the NPP in 2012. Peter Otukonor was convinced President John Evans Atta Mills would retire Nana Akufo-Addo politically in 2012 and continue to fulfill his Better Ghana Agenda promise to Ghanaians.
