The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has enrolled in Mount Crest University College in Accra, to pursue a programme in Master of Law (Chieftaincy Law).Mr. Kwaku Ansah-Asare, Chancellor of the university, who made this known to the Times in Accra on Tuesday, said the Asantehene was offered a place in the university in recognition of his distinguished role in the adjudication of land disputes in Asanteman. Mr. Ansah-Asare, a former Director of the Ghana Law School, said the Asantehene had been able to handle some critical and delicate cases which had been pending in the law courts for over 80 years.He said the university therefore, invited him to write his thesis and share his experience with the world in lieu of a PhD in Chieftaincy Law.Mr. Ansah-Asare said arrangement had been made for Otumfuo to have contact hours with lecturers of the college since he could not always be on the campus in Accra and more so, as his study would be mostly research based.He said to other eminent persons including Paramount Chiefs, Police Officers, Senior Practicing lawyers and top management persons are also on the programme. Mr. Ansah-Asare asked students who will be matriculating in November to take their destiny into their own hands to take advantage of the collection of eminent lecturers who would be available for them. He said their success would mainly depend on their determination, humility, sacrifice and hard work as captured in the schools motto to give meaning to life. The Mount Crest University College was founded in August 2008 to provide tertiary education to meet the well-trained manpower needs of the country.It has been granted accreditation by the National Accreditation Board to run programmes in Law and Health Service/ Public Health both at the graduate and undergraduate levels and is affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.It currently has 116 students pursuing Bachelor of Law, 10 Master of Law and is for the Public Health service programme.
