A Deputy Information Minister, Baba Jamal says the flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is no match for President J.E.A. Mills when it comes to intellectual discourse. According to him, the NPP flag bearer does not have the impetus to talk about intelligence and vision when he emerged with a third class from the University of Ghana. Baba Jamal was reacting to Nana Akufo-Addo’s call for visionary leaders who think big, act big and do big things to develop the country. The NPP flag bearer made the comments while addressing the Tertiary Education Students Conference (TESCON) of the NPP at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi over the weekend. Nana Akufo-Addo said the NPP is the only political party that can move Ghana to a first world country when voted into office. But Baba Jamal who was a panelist on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, could not fathom the rationale behind Nana Akufo-Addo's comment against his class mate (President Mills)who had a first class. “It is a statement of fact that they (Nana Addo and Mills) sat in the same class room but one had first class and the other had third class,” he added. The Deputy Minister who was appalled by Nana Akufo-Addo comment said based on the track record of the two personalities, President Mills is more intelligent and visionary than Nana Akufo Addo. “Prof Mills had his doctorate degree at the age of 27 years, he taught law for 25 years and was the boss of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for ten years whiles Nana Addo was just a lawyer,” he opined. Using an analogy in football, Baba Jamal described President Mills as a 'utility player' who is working assiduously to fulfill his Better Ghana Agenda. He argued that the NPP leader cannot equate himself to President Mills who has proven beyond reasonable doubt even from the University that he (Mills) is better than Nana Addo. Baba Jamal urged Nana Akufo-Addo to make realistic promises that would convince Ghanaians to consider voting for him in 2012 instead of building castles in the air.
