Mr Alban S.K. Bagbin, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing has predicted that the NDC would win the next election by 57 per cent if it were to be held today, explaining that "with the stature of the President the party should, be getting more than that." He posited that even though the President had a good image, that alone could not propel the party to victory, since there was the need for the structures of the party to function well. "We cannot go into an election with a fractured party. We need each other. Let us use the forthcoming impending Christmas to patch up our differences in order to go into 2012 in unity since time is not on our side," he cautioned. Bagbin expressed his disappointment at the current hostilities within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and called for immediate solutions to the problem, since the party risks losing the 2012 general election with such a divided front. He said it was unfortunate that not much had been done to unite the camps of President John Evans Atta Mills and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings after the party's historic congress in Sunyani which endorsed the President as the NDC presidential candidate for the 2012 elections. "Why should FONKAR and GAME be still allowed to operate after the Sunyani Congress when the National Executive Committee has proscribed their existence within the party", he questioned. "Our supporters are now disenchanted and everything should be done to unite them before it is too late," he said. Mr Bagbin appealed to members of the party to avoid the use of foul language since such a behaviour gradually creeping into the party was tarnishing its image. He suggested that the national executive of the party should be given more power to enable them to have the full grip of affairs within the party since it was only through that that party structures would be respected. Mr Bagbin, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli West and immediate past Majority Leader, said the existence of GAME and FONKAR had divided the ranks of the party and cautioned that "if we continue to do that the party will be doomed". He therefore called on the executive of the party to be bold to implement its decision not to allow FONKAR and GAME to operate within the party, since the current situation had made the ground not too good for the party.
