A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Atta Boateng says the party will vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate Victor Smith as MP for the constituency.
Mr. Atta Boateng explained that the reason for the NPP to vote for the NDC candidate is purely on developmental grounds because the NPP candidate, Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu who was once MP for the area failed to bring development to the constituency.
He said even though Victor Smith who is currently Ghana’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic, was yet to go to parliament, has made moves to develop the area, which to him is enough proof for him to be given the opportunity to lead the people of Abuakwa north.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Friday, Atta Boateng who is a former Polling Station Organizer for the NPP said the parliamentary primary election by the NPP was not fairly conducted.
Though he claimed to be a member of the NPP, he will vote for Mr. Smith because has been able to lobby for work to begin on the construction of the roads from Kukurantumi to Apedwa and Tafo which were earmarked for construction since the J B Danquah era.
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor recently visited the Abuakwa north constituency where he met thousands of NPP supporters to dissuade them from voting skirt and blouse against the NPP candidate, J B Danquah. But this persuasion failed as the supporters of the NPP are adamant and insist to vote for Victor Smith.
Atta Boateng said former President Kufuor’s plea had come too late because the people had already made up their mind.
Meanwhile, a Deputy Communications Director for the NPP, Sammy Awuku cautioned that NPP voting skirt and blouse will not augur well for the party.
He called on the aggrieved persons to channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters for redress.
