General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has denied reports that he said the Mills-administration will win the upcoming elections with or without the support of the founder of the party.
He was reported to have said on Multi TV’s Badwam Friday that the party will not beg Mr Rawlings to campaign for it in 2012 due to disagreements between the founder and the President. He reportedly said he was convinced the NDC government will retain power even without the help of Mr Rawlings.
But speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s news analysis programme, Newsfile, Saturday, the NDC General Secretary denied ever making such comments, insisting that words were "manufactured and put in my mouth".
He said he did not even discuss anything concerning election or campaigning in 2012 on the show and explained that the only comment he made that comes closer to what has been attributed to him was a response he gave to a listener who asked what the party was doing to ensure there is peace within the NDC.
The NDC guru said he only stated that he believed the former first couple did not ‘deserve any apology’ if they were angry because of the humiliating defeat Mrs Rawlings suffered in her bid to unseat President Mills as the flagbearer of the party.
Mr Asiedu speaking in Twi on Badwam had commented: “…enti se obi hunu se obi ato aba, alose na se ose onjoini campaign, otsina ho ama wakopa no kyew a, eden basis na wo gyina so akopa no kyew?” To wit: If someone loses an election and says he won’t join the campaign and is waiting for you to beg him, on what basis are you going to beg the person?
