NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo has urged Muslims in the country to renew their commitment to ensuring peace in their communities.
Nana Addo was addressing Muslim residents of Alajo, a suburb of Accra on Sunday, when he joined them to celebrate the Eid al-Adha.
The Eid-al-Adha, or Feast of Sacrifice, is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide.
Nana Addo was invited to help sacrifice a goat to signify the importance of the occasion. He told the gathering they must pray for peace as the 2012 polls draw near.
“It’s an important day for us... above all, what days like this should do for [us is] to renew our commitment to a peaceful united Ghana and that the prayers that have come from here are not just for Muslims [but] for the Ghanaians around the world,” Nana Addo said.
He said the prayers offered during the programme are also intended to help him for the arduous task ahead as he prepares to contest the 12 general Elections
MP for Ayawaso Central Sheikh I.C. Quaye also advised his fellow Muslims to allow the sense of sacrifice to permeate into their lives.
He urged them to pray for the NPP flagbearer who he said has “won the 12 General Election far in advance”.
“Ghana today is at a cross road. You all know that Ghana is at a cross road,” the former Greater Accra regional minister said, adding that things are not going well; the more reason why people should vote for Nana Akufo-Addo come 2012.
