Ernest Adjei, a self-acclaimed pastor of the Methodist Church, Ghana, who wielded a toy gun and a knife and chartered a taxi with a view to snatch it from the driver, has been arraigned before court.
Adjei, a resident of Ahomaso, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, hired the taxi at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region under the pretence of distributing invitation letters to church members.
He pleaded guilty to carrying offensive weapons and attempt to commit crime and the Akim Oda Magistrates Court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor bonded him to be of good behaviour for six months.
Adjei would serve a six-month prison term in hard labour, in default.
At about 2100 hours on October 18, Adjei who wanted to outwit the driver told him that he suspected that one of the tyres had picked a nail and could deflate the tube, so he should stop to check.
This heightened the suspicion of the driver and therefore, drove to Akim Oda where he demanded a fare of GH₵40 from Adjei, who could not pay.
The driver then sent him to the Methodist Mission House where nobody knew him.
At this juncture, the self-acclaimed head pastor struggled with the driver in an attempt to take to his heels, but according to Detective Inspector Kwaku Appiah, who confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency, Adjei was forced into the taxi and was handed over to the Akim Oda Police.
