All seems not to be well in the Andani family following the decision by some members to distance themselves from the press conference held last week by the Andani Royal Gate.
Mr. Andani Mahama, blood brother of the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II and the Secretary to the Andani Youth Association says the Andani family has not lost confidence in the NDC government’s ability to apprehend the murderers of the late overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II.
They have therefore completely disassociated themselves from the group’s militant stance and their ultimatum to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), stressing that the group (which is also coincidentally also from the Andani Royal family) is out of order.
On Wednesday, served notice to NDC officials to find the killers of the late overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani or risk losing their votes in the upcoming elections.
According to them, the failure of the NDC government to find the killers of the late Ya-Na could plunge the Northern region into serious chaos once again. The youth also wondered if President Mills’ 2008 campaign promise to bring the late Ya-Na’s killers to book was a fluke.
“No NDC official should come to the North to do campaign if the killers of the late Ya-Na are not arrested,” spokesperson for the Andani youth, Sayibu Abdul Rahman said. “The government is now backtracking from the Dagbon issue and we are beginning to lose confidence in them and if care is not taken the North will once again be locked in a serious confusion.”
But speaking in an interview with Shamima Muslim on the Citi Eye Witness News, the Secretary of the Andani Youth Association who was speaking on behalf of the family said as elders, they cannot sit idly by and watch their youth take the law into their hands, reiterating their total disagreement with their stance.
“If we decided to go for the NDC in the 2008 elections it was because they had a campaign manifesto which seemed to have taken care of our interests to look for those who murdered the Ya-Naa… Today we are still in the tenure of the NDC government so why are they casting insinuations and trying to put pressure? We know justice will one day be done whether under the tenure of the NDC or any other government…We disagree with the fact that they came out to issue a press statement which was in a form of a threat to the government,” Andani Mahama said.
However, Salifu Zakui, who claims to be a member of the Andani Youth Group that organised the infamous press conference threatening the NDC government with votes should they fail to find the killers of the late Ya-Na, dismissed Andani Mahama’s assertions and the existence of any other Andani group aside the one he belongs to.
Speaking on the same platform, Zakui said: “…we don’t know any other group belonging to the Andani family other than our own and that is why we are able to issue the press statement publicly. We belong to the Andani Family but I don’t know the man talking right now,” he said.
He described Andani Mahama as a sham, an imposter and further accused him of being a hypocrite.
“…If they think the group is not an Andani group they should come out and say it publicly,” Salifu Zakui added.
Shocked at the utterances by his family member, Andani Mahama, in a sharp rebuttal maintained that the group that held the press conference threatening the governing NDC with votes are only interested in pursuing their own selfish political interests.
“It’s rather interesting because he is talking about things he does not know about. They have political gains that they want to pursue and we will not allow them. They are doing politics…he’s is speaking for himself, he’s not speaking for the family,” he said.
