The Communications Director at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho has issued a stern warning to the rank and file of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to attempt to perpetrate violence in the 2012 general elections, or they will be crushed.
In an interview with Focus Radio in London, United Kingdom, Koku Anyidoho said the government will not compromise on the peace and security of the country.
In reference to the infamous ‘All Die be Die' comments by the NPP presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, the Castle Communications Director noted that if the NPP is brave as they profess, the government will match them boot for boot and ensure that the NPP will be at their grave yard earlier than they thought.
Koku Anyidoho stressed that the former National and current Chairmen of the NPP, Peter Mac Manu and Jake Obestebe Lamptey should bear in mind that if they think there are men in their party, there are equally strong men in the NDC who will not kowtow to the whims and caprices of the NPP.
"We will protect the integrity of the elections, we will go to the elections, and Ghanaians will be safe… Let Akufo-Addo make any mistake as he professes to be an indigene of Okyeman, Akufo-Addo should dare and also to you Gabby, if you are a real men, make a wrong move in this country and you will see where power lies," Koku Anyidoho warned.
Reacting to the comments of Mr Anyidoho, the Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Sammy Awuku said this vague threat will not deter the NPP from ensuring that the right thing is done in next year’s general elections.
"We will do everything within our power democratically to win the elections at all cost," Sammy Awuku added.
He expressed regret that whiles Press Secretaries to Presidents have exhibited the traits of their leaders, President Atta Mills who has portrayed himself as ‘Asomdwoehene’ has someone like Koku as his Spokesperson.
"This has confirmed our long-held perception that President Mills is deceiving Ghanaians with his character and traits," Sammy Awuku added.
He said while President Mills portrayed himself as a holy person who is next to God, comments from his appointees and ministers attest to that the fact that he is not a peace-loving president and supports the insults from his appointees.
Gabby Asare Okyere Darko whose name was mentioned by Koku Anyidoho in the interview said the threats were unnecessary and should be ignored.
He said what was important was for the Electoral Commission (EC) to be given enough resources to conduct free and fair elections.
Deputy National Propaganda Secretary for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Solomon Nkansah said Koku Anyidoho spoke the mind of Ghanaians.
