The Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra has picked a top award at the 2011 West African and Tourism and Hospitality (WATHA) Awards.
It was adjudged the Best Four-Star Hotel/Resort in the West African sub-region.
The WATHA Award is organised yearly to award and celebrate top industry organisations which have shown skill, creativity, ingenuity and success in West Africa’s growing tourism and hospitality industry.
The awards aim among others at encouraging higher standards and applauding the efforts made by individuals and personalities, as well as stimulate a fairly competitive spirit to galvanise brilliance within the industry in West Africa.
Several categories are awarded each year, such as the best in the educational sector, tourism authority, travel agency, management firm (indigenous and international brands), car rentals and financial institution, among others.
Management staff of the hotel made it to the event to receive the award with pride. They were the General Manager, Mr. Neville Paul, the Financial Controller, Ms. Patience Dzikunoo, the Sales and Marketing Manager, Mrs. Yvonne Eyeson and the executive chef, Mr. Jean Bernard Amic.
In a brief remark at the ceremony in Accra, Mr. Neville Paul, the General Manager, paid glowing to the dedicated staff of the hotel by whose collective effort “we have reached this milestone and won this prestigious award”.
He said the award was a motivation to the hotel in its quest to chalk more successes and honours and also make more meaningful contributions to enhance the image and prospects of the tourism and hospitality industry in West Africa.
The UNDP Country highly praised Fiesta Royale for the professional manner it hosted the Global Environment Facility Small Grant Programme last September.
The National Co-ordinator of the programme, Mr. George Ortsin, explaining that being the first time the country is hosting the event, the management and staff of the hotel gave a good account of “your hospitality and dedication to work”.
