The Communications Director at the office of the President, Koku Anyidoho has denied claims that he is threatening the flagbearer of the largest opposition party NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo saying he only gave a warning to the NPP flagbearer not to foment any trouble before, during and after the 2012 general elections.
According to Koku Anyidoho, he has no power to threaten no less a person than Nana Akufo-Addo, and that he rather cautioned ‘warmongers” in the country.
“Who is threatening Nana Addo? Do I have the power to threaten someone of that calibre? I don’t even matter in the mathematical equation of Ghana politics to threaten anybody” he asserted.
In an interview with London based Focus Radio, Koku Anyidoho said the government will not compromise on the peace and security of the country.
Recalling the ‘All Die be Die' comments by the NPP presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr. Anyidoho noted that if the NPP is as brave as they claim, the government will match them boot for boot.
Koku Anyidoho stressed that the former and current Chairmen of the NPP, Peter Mac Manu and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey respectively, should bear in mind that if they think there are men in their party, there are equally strong men in the NDC who will not kow tow to the whims and caprices of the NPP.
Speaking on Asempa fm’s Ekosii-sen on Thursday, Koku Anyidoho noted that President Mills is not afraid to concede defeat in 2012 if he loses the elections. “If in 2012 Ghanaians vote against President Mills in 2012, he will step aside and it is a fact”.
He stressed that for the peace and security of the country, President Mills will not shirk his responsibility in making sure that every Ghanaian is protected. ”But for someone to declare all-die-be-die and cause mayhem, it will not happen because President Mills will protect the territorial waters of the country”.
He said President Mills has made it clear that the 2012 elections will be free and fair and reiterated it in Canada during his recent state visit.
He noted that Ghana was handed over peaceful to him as president and will hand over peaceful to a successor.
Mr. Koku Anyidoho said though President Mills is a peaceful man, Ghanaians have vested power in him and that he will not allow anybody to usurp that power by creating mayhem. “It is Mills’ job to hand overa peaceful Ghana as was handed over to him”.
He stressed that his comments on Nana Akufo-Addo was taken out of context: “I was just reacting to Peter Mac-Manu who has said on London based Focus radio that the NPP will protect itself if the state fails to do so”.
Mr Anyidoho further stated that he does not hate Nana Akufo-Addo in anyway.”I have never hated Nana Addo and will never do so because he has not done me wrong”.
“It is just as a matter of choice, someone says it is Nana Addo and I say it is Mills, so it is no fight. But we are going to execute the agenda well in a purposeful manner and I will continue to do so and if people say it is a threat, so be it”.
