Boxer and comedian Bukom Banku has set his fury fist and eagle eyes on Parliament to begin a career in politics.
He will be contesting the swing traditional seat of Odododiodio in the centre of Accra as an independent candidate.
Braimah Kamoko, better known as Bukom Banku announced his new decision in an interview with Joy News’ Anny Osabutey.
Banku claimed he was used and dumped by the two major political parties - the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress.
The parties, he said rode on his massive popularity in the constituency and took turns to get representatives into Parliament. But several years on, the ferocious boxer insists all the representatives have failed to bring any meaningful development to the area.
Popularly known as Bukom, the Odododiodio constituency is widely known for its repertoire of boxing talents, acclaimed for its popular ‘jama’ but scoffed for its strangling poverty and poor sanitation.
Bukom Banku even without a political position said he helps the residents by providing money for funerals, outdoorings, hospital bills and other key social activities.
“This is the beginning. They know when I become MP I will do more things,” he said.
“I am ready to stand as independent candidate. I don’t want to stand for any party. I do party, party [for many years] but I have not gotten anything. I don’t have truck, I don’t have anything,” he said.
He reckoned he would do a better job in politics than his predecessors in Parliament.
Some of the constituents are already showering him with praises and vowing to vote for him in the 2012 elections.
