The Volta Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Amenowode, has warned that the government will not countenance unnecessary disputes over the naming of newly created districts and the sitting of capitals for such districts.
He said proposals for the creation of such new districts would be withdrawn when some residents resorted to kicking against government decision to create and name them.
Mr Amenowode was speaking at the 27th National Farmer's Day at Kudzra in the Kpando District where he announced that seven districts had been proposed for the Volta Region, adding that it would enhance remittances from the central government for development at the district level.
He gave the warning against the backdrop that there were already dissents in the North-Tongu and Kpando districts over the sitting of the district capital and Hohoe municipality over the naming of the new district at Golokwati.
The Regional Minister announced that the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) had set aside a special prize to be awarded to any district that would avoid bushfires in the current dry season adding that the award would be handed over at next year's farmer's day.
He said the region was poised to regain its position in cocoa production in the country, adding that the VRCC would encourage all residents to take advantage of the free distribution of cocoa seedlings to fulfill that endeavours.
Mr Amenowode also said oil palm cultivation would be taken seriously for the production of industrial oil, adding that similar efforts would be extended to the cultivation of cotton in the region.
He further announced that a Chinese agricultural investment in the region would require about 8,000 acres of land and asked land owners to rise up to the task to provide the facility which was required for the investment.
In an address, the Minister of Tourism, Ms Sena Akua Dansua, urged the youth to embrace agriculture to enable them to take over from their aged parents.
