The former National Youth Organizer for the opposition Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh has asked the Mills-led administration to apologize to the people of the northern Ghana for what he describes as a failure of the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).
According to him, the government has failed to honour its promise of mobilizing seed money of GHC400 million but only able to honour GHC25 million.
SADA was established in 2009 by the current NDC administration to help reduce unemployment and poverty levels of the three northern regions.
The government promised to contribute about GHC200 million for its implementation in order to help raise the living standards of the people.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Thursday, James Kwabena Bomfeh noted that the current state of SADA is a shame and worth no commendation.
“SADA is a shame because the government is taking the people in the upper regions for a ride and I think the government should apologize. The government promised GHC400 million and has only paid GHC25 million, what can it do at all?” he queried.
Mr. Kwabena Bomfeh also known as Kabila, stressed that there is no legal backing for the SADA fund which means successive governments can decide not to fund it again. “The government is not committed to the SADA because as I talk to you now there is no LI backing the fund so any other government can abrogate it”.
He said it is one of the failures of the NDC government headed by President Mills who promised the people of Ghana ‘a better Ghana agenda’ but not able to do half of what they promised.
He said the people of the northern regions should demand an apology from the government for deceiving them. "During the 2008 electioneering campaign the NDC behaved like they are the only ones who like northerners but has now turn up to be a lie through their posture towards SADA”.
