Communications Minister Haruna Iddrisu is convinced Ghanaians will reward President John Mills with another term in office because his moral background and integrity compared to his closest rival, Nana Akufo-Addo is impeccable.The minister was reacting to the poll conducted by the UK-based Economist Intelligence Unit in which it predicted a slim victory for the ruling party in yet another bitter election.Touting the credibility of the Intelligence Unit, Iddrisu said the polls serve a “useful guide that Mills is ahead of Nana Addo in many respects.”He was however cautious, saying, the “attitude of the NDC will not be to put absolute premium on the polls.”He said December 2012 is a long period during which many things could affect positively or negatively, the fortunes of either party.He was however optimistic that “Mills will humble Nana Addo” in the elections.“…By moral standing we are optimistic that the people of Ghana will go with President Mills; with his integrity they will go with him; with his pledges and promises he’s honoured to the best of his capacity and the economy.“We do think that certain things would have to be right in government and when that is done all we need to ensure is that the elections are peaceful and the transition is peaceful,” he stated.But the Head of Communications for the NPP thinks otherwise.Whilst he did not rubbish the polls, Nana Akomea told Joy News the factors - incumbency and Ghanaians preference to second term - which the intelligence unit cited were not too convincing for a political party to win an election at all cost.He argued in-fighting within the NDC coupled with criticisms from the opposition could only obliterate the power of incumbency by the government.Chronicling the trend of past elections, Nana Akomea averred further that incumbent governments loses three to four per centage points in subsequent elections and believes with the NDC winning by less than one per cent it would definitely lose the 2012 elections.
